Switzerland is the best place to be born

The Economist’s Intelligence Unit tried to assess which country gave its children the best chance of a happy, safe and prosperous life. "Being rich helps more than anything else," they write, "but it is not all that counts; things like crime, trust in public institutions and the health of family life matter too." The final measure factors in everything from income to geography to demography. When all is said and done, Switzerland leads the list, with Australia and Norway close behind. The United States tied with Germany for 16th place.

Warren Buffett, probably the world’s most successful investor, has said that anything good that happened to him could be traced back to the fact that he was born in the right country, the United States, at the right time (1930). A quarter of a century ago, when The World in 1988 light-heartedly ranked 50 countries according to where would be the best place to be born in 1988, America indeed came top. But which country will be the best for a baby born in 2013?

To answer this, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a sister company of The Economist, has this time turned deadly serious. It earnestly attempts to measure which country will provide the best opportunities for a healthy, safe and prosperous life in the years ahead.

Its quality-of-life index links the results of subjective life-satisfaction surveys—how happy people say they are—to objective determinants of the quality of life across countries. Being rich helps more than anything else, but it is not all that counts; things like crime, trust in public institutions and the health of family life matter too. In all, the index takes 11 statistically significant indicators into account. They are a mixed bunch: some are fixed factors, such as geography; others change only very slowly over time (demography, many social and cultural characteristics); and some factors depend on policies and the state of the world economy.
A forward-looking element comes into play, too. Although many of the drivers of the quality of life are slow-changing, for this ranking some variables, such as income per head, need to be forecast. We use the EIU’s economic forecasts to 2030, which is roughly when children born in 2013 will reach adulthood.
Despite the global economic crisis, times have in certain respects never been so good. Output growth rates have been declining across the world, but income levels are at or near historic highs. Life expectancy continues to increase steadily and political freedoms have spread across the globe, most recently in north Africa and the Middle East. In other ways, however, the crisis has left a deep imprint—in the euro zone, but also elsewhere—particularly on unemployment and personal security. In doing so, it has eroded both family and community life.
Where to be born in 1988
What does all this, and likely developments in the years to come, mean for where a baby might be luckiest to be born in 2013? After crunching its numbers, the EIU has Switzerland comfortably in the top spot, with Australia second.

Small economies dominate the top ten. Half of these are European, but only one, the Netherlands, is from the euro zone. The Nordic countries shine, whereas the crisis-ridden south of Europe (Greece, Portugal and Spain) lags behind despite the advantage of a favourable climate. The largest European economies (Germany, France and Britain) do not do particularly well.

America, where babies will inherit the large debts of the boomer generation, languishes back in 16th place. Despite their economic dynamism, none of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) scores impressively. Among the 80 countries covered, Nigeria comes last: it is the worst place for a baby to enter the world in 2013.

Boring is best

Quibblers will, of course, find more holes in all this than there are in a chunk of Swiss cheese. America was helped to the top spot back in 1988 by the inclusion in the ranking of a “philistine factor” (for cultural poverty) and a “yawn index” (the degree to which a country might, despite all its virtues, be irredeemably boring). Switzerland scored terribly on both counts. In the film “The Third Man”, Orson Welles’s character, the rogue Harry Lime, famously says that Italy for 30 years had war, terror and murder under the Borgias but in that time produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance; Switzerland had 500 years of peace and democracy—and produced the cuckoo clock.

However, there is surely a lot to be said for boring stability in today’s (and no doubt tomorrow’s) uncertain times. A description of the methodology is available here: food for debate all the way from Lucerne to Lagos.

Rama Navami
is the day on which Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, incarnated in human form in the land of Ayodhya. He is the ardha ansh of Vishnu or has half the divinitive qualities of Lord Vishnu. The word “Rama” literally means one who is divinely blissful and who gives joy to others, and one in whom the sages rejoice.
Ram Navami falls on the ninth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Chaitra (April/May) and coincides with Vasant Navratri or Chait (Chaitra) Durga Puja. Therefore in some regions, the festival is spread over nine days. This day, marking the birthday of Lord Rama, is also observed as the marriage day of Rama and Sita and thus also referred to as Kalyanotsavam.

Significance of Ram Navami

Ram Navami is a festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the son of King Dasharath. It was a joyous occasion in Ayodhya all those centuries ago when King Dasharath's heir was finally born. It was like a dream come true for the king as the lack of an heir had troubled him sorely for many years.
Lord Rama is an Avatar of Lord Vishnu who came down to earth to battle the invincible Ravana in human form. Lord Brahma had been receiving complaints from all the gods about the havoc that Ravana was wreaking on earth, but because Lord Brahma had granted Ravana so many boons, he could not be killed by a god. But Ravana had become so overconfident that he would never expect an attack from a human being. So Lord Vishnu agreed to go to earth in the guise of Prince Ram, the son of King Dasharath and Queen Kaushalya.
The story of Lord Rama as told in the great epic Ramayana is one that most Indians know irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Lord Rama is a legendary figure, the epitome of all that is good and true, the man who vanquished the demon king, Ravana. Lord Rama is not just a hero, but has been given the status of a god by the Hindus. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that his birth is celebrated year after year with great pomp and enjoyment on the ninth day after the new moon in Sukul Paksh (the waxing moon), which falls sometime in the month of April.

The story of the Ramayan is a classic, eternal, universal message of Dharma versus adharma, of deva versus demon, of good versus evil, as represented in the battle between Rama and Ravana.

Ravana was a brahmin; he was a great scholar who wrote numerous works on scriptural philosophy. He was powerful, dynamic, and beautiful in appearance. As the brilliant, handsome king of Lanka, he had everything one would need to be happy and peaceful. Yet, he was arrogant, egoistic, greedy and lustful. His insatiable desires led him to crave more and more power, more and more money, and more and more ladies to fulfill his every whim.
There is one main difference: Bhagwan Rama’s heart overflowed with divinity, love, generosity, humility, and a sense of duty. Ravana’s heart, in contrast, was filled with avarice, hatred, and egoism. Under Bhagwan Rama’s divine touch, the animals became his devotees and his divine helpers. Under Ravana’s touch, even humans became animals.
Through his noble and divine choices, he teaches the world to choose dharma over Artha (when he leaves for the forest rather than be coronated as King) and to choose Moksha over Kama (when he chooses his kingdom over his marriage).
Bhagwan Rama teaches that :
As a son
Respectfully and lovingly obey your father’s orders. Sacrifice your own comfort for your father’s dignity.
As a step-son
Even when your step mother (or mother-in-law) is not kind to you, even when she clearly dis- criminates against you in favor of her own birth child, do not resent her, do not fight against her. Respect her and her wishes.
As a brother
Remain loyal to your brother. Care for him.
As a husband
Protect your wife. Fight for her protection and her purity. But there are times when one’s divine path must even take precedence over the path of householder. Do not keep the role of householder as the ultimate role.
As a King
Sacrifice everything for your people. Do not worry about your own comfort, your own convenience or your own pleasure. Be willing to put the kingdom ahead of your own needs.

Prayer to offer on the birth of lord rama

Vikram Samvat 2071

Vikram samvat 2071 will begin on 31st March 2014 i.e. Chaitra shukla pratipada. Most of the people throughout the world either follow the system of the Georgian calendar or English calendar. But in India, we follow the calendar system based on the Hindu traditions, which is known as “Vikrami Samvat”. This calendar is based on the movement of moon and is widely followed by a large number of priests and astrologers in India.
What is Vikaram Samvat?

Samvat is a short form of the Sanskrit word ‘Samvatsar’, literally meaning ‘year’. This system of Hindu calendar was started by King Vikramaditya and hence it is known as “Vikram Samvat”. Vikramaditya was the king of Ujjain.

Structure of a Hindu calendar

The structure of a Hindu calendar is very interesting. The lifetime of the universe is known as “Kalpa” which is further segmented into period units known as “Manavantra”. Now, each Manavantra have various set of four yugas, namely Kretha Yuga, Thretha Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kali Yuga. The present era is known as “Kali yuga”.  Each yuga further comprises of a number of years or “Samvatsars”. Samvastar is also a time period in which the planet Jupitar moves through one sign with its average speed.

The four Yugas
Following is the number of years constituted by each Yuga –

Name of the Yuga   Number of calendar years

Kretha Yuga        17,28,000

Thretha Yuga      12,96,000

Dwapara Yuga      8,64,000

Kali Yuga              4,32,000

The numbers in the Hindu system are based on the Shaka System. And the numbers in the Shaka system are the variables which depend on the first year in which the Shaka was started by an emperor. But irrespective of fact to which Shaka the year belongs, the names of the year always remain the same. Since Samvatsar is the yearly movement of Jupiter within one zodiac, it might be at a varying distance from Earth at times. So, while transiting in the zodiac, it is under different celestial influences during a cycle of sixty years.

India, a country known for its traditional values and healthy culture. And it really does have that potential goodness. but last few years we are loosing the identity, of our values, culture and healthy environment.

In recent years we have grown a lot, thanks to Westernization(Globalization) . we developed incredibly and we became one of most influencing country. we have now MNC's tall buildings and lot of population looking for a great opportunity (we have the largest population of Young adults)
But despite of these we have lost our values. before you get it in wrong way as an another Article of Westernization , let me furnish it further. we have grown but our our mind isn't. we have tall buildings as in western countries but the shortest/ narrow minded people. we got their culture but didn't got their values.
so now we are "Sick Minded INDO-WESTERN Indians" .
we adopted what they wear and how fascinating their living standard is. But we couldn't have the mentality to live in that world.
from edible to to the culture we adopted all but we always neglected what the goodness behind them. our morning start with suit boot , and end up with two pegs at night. is this all western culture? There is every citizen's contribution in building nation.

I am always against the protest of westernization, but what we are adopting? if a boy/man roam with a girl, i need to say what people think. seriously we haven't grown up, we are the sicken of show offs, negativity. we need to reassess our moral values with western culture. if we are adopting them we need to grow up with their mentality. they have lot more goodness than what we had adopted. They are developed countries in every mean.
India Celebrates its New year (2070) on First day of Chaitra (Hindu lunar Calender) which is on 11th April 2013  this year.
